Volunteering opportunities

Volunteering can be very rewarding

With so much biodiversity-related research being carried out around the University we thought it might be an idea to host a page on our website where students/researchers who would like to volunteer their time can match with those of you who need some help.

We’ll list all the opportunities on this page, as well as links to profiles of people who are volunteering their time and expertise, with the idea you can contact each other directly.

CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES

Help reverse the serious decline in swift numbers. Oxford Swift City Group is recruiting volunteers to survey swifts in Oxford City this summer. Just one hour twice a month during May, June and July. Training will be provided. Contact OxfordSwiftCity@rspb.org.uk if interested.

ClimateEd: Inspire children in Oxford to take action against climate change by becoming a Climate Ed volunteer. Climate Ed teaches children about climate change and empowers them to take action. Volunteers go into a primary school in the Oxford area to deliver a workshop programme about climate change/carbon footprints and inspire the children to start taking action! If you are knowledgeable about sustainability, and enjoy interacting with children and answering their questions, fill out this short form to find out more: https://forms.gle/SYkn28HDRU6y9Upi9.

We are recruiting up to three short-term research assistants this spring/summer to assist with biodiversity data collection near Oxford. Fieldwork assistants will join a small team surveying insects, plants, mammals and birds at Begbroke, north of Oxford, where the University of Oxford is planning a major infrastructure project. We’re looking for people with fieldwork experience, good natural history skills, attention to detail, and the ability to identify relevant UK plant and animal taxa in the field and/or laboratory.
